BROOK LONGOBARDI, RYT, Y4C
A new mother of twins with a 17 month old, Brook reluctantly accompanied a friend, after much urging, to a yoga class. Stressed and uncomfortable, Brook entered class with resignation and an eye on the clock. After 10 minutes, she experienced a shift in her attitude as the remaining 50 minutes flew by and Brook left feeling uplifted and energized.
An arthritis sufferer with sciatic back issues, Brook had been unable to enjoy her active lifestyle or even lift her babies without pain. Between a consistant yoga practice and Alternative Therapy, Brook came out of her "cave of pain" to become an active wellness warrior.
A Resident of Florida since 1991, Brook balances the joys and demands of being a wife and mother of three with her career as yoga instructor for Alternative Therapy, as well as operating a yoga studio of her very own. Brook has been a Certified Yoga Teacher since 2008, trained in alignment based, Iyengar style yoga.
After watching patients struggling to cope after cancer surgery, Brook became certified in Yoga for Cancer at Kripalu, Center for Yoga and Health. Since then she has aided students in reclaiming confidence and trust in their bodies while building strength and range of motion after surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Brook has built her practice on this belief: Every individual body can benefit from yoga. Her intuitive teaching skills bring out even the most unconfident student while keeping the over exuberant safe from injury. Brook experiences gratifying results in assisting students, both young and mature, in improving their muscle strength and coordination. With continued practice, students experience a kind of "reprogramming" of the body's systems with extraordinary results like; lower blood pressure, improved balance, weight loss and relief from back pain and arthritis.
